This post is very important as it will help us do things right from start. Anyone is welcome to comment on this subject and clarify the legal problems we may have in the future. We need to clarify the following point:
In case MOO Fans decide to keep the same game design of Master of Orion 2 of course there will be some new features and improvements. But lets say that 90% of the game look and feel is the same, does it cause us any legal issues? For example, keeping the same names of raced like Elerians, Gnolam etc… is it legally acceptable or not? Its important to note that its not a lack of creativity from us that we cant create new race names, its just that some fans including me may like to have the same race names or may be the same 2D interface. Its very important to know what can be reused from previous games and whats not.
I hope Atari legal representatives could also help us clarify this matter because as I remember they still own the license to the MOO series.
